fixed sizes result in squeezed gui elements. Setting them to default helps.

attached zip contains 3 distinct patches

wx-2.8, 3.0 and 3.1

please find attached the screen shots.

Seen this on wx-3.1 (ubuntu 16.04 gnome 3), wx-3.0 (antergos gnome 3), wx-2.8 (ubuntu 14.04 gnome 3) and
... wx-3.0 (raspbian lxde ;-), different screens/resolutions
