I was using CB for last 6 7 years, and for lasy 2 months I cannot get around a feasible working version.
Painting problems, mysterious disparaging from screen, project lost, all kind of weird stuff.
I start using CodeLite instead. To bad you screw it up so badly...
Yep, Ubuntu Unity is really crap; they finally decided to call it quits and are going to Gnome3.

Have you tried to disable the symbol browser and see if the crashes disappear?

+1. i think ubuntu comes back to the right way....
I still use cb on ubuntu 16.04.
At first sight I was very disappointed too.
Then I:
* switched to gnome3
* compiled wxwidgets 3.1.1 from trunk
* compiled cb from trunk
* disabled the symbol browser in cb
Since then it is ok.

Have you tried installing from here:
https://launchpad.net/~codeblocks-devs/+archive/ubuntu/daily
I'm using C::B with Mint on several PCs with Linux Mint desktop, no problems observed.
