Clearing the "Messages" Windows

Greets,

   I don't know if I'm missing something or not, but there are times that I would like (or need for 'noise' purposes) to clear the various tabs of the 'Messages' area.  Even selecting all the text and trying to delete doesn't seem to work.  It would be nice to just be able to clear the text of those windows from the context menu or keyboard command if necessary.  If there is a key for it, I haven't found it yet.  Any pointers would be appreciated.
