Sample wxWidgets project executable won't run

I'm using Ubuntu Linux. I do not know much about executables on the Linux operating system.

I'm trying to compile the sample "empty" wxWidgets 2.8 project -- the one that gives a blank grey window. I've done it fine in Windows. I just can't get it to work in Linux. I've compiled wxWidgets I think correctly. I've also set up the directories ok.

The project compiles and links fine. But when I try to run it, I get this message:

Code Select Expand

Process terminated with status 127 (0 minutes, 0 seconds)

In other words, the compiled executable immediately quits.

I've searched all over and I cannot figure this one out. Please help!
