Multi-column editor?

I was using a wide-screen laptop the other day. Televisions are moving to this format and computer screens are following. It's nice for a number of applications but not for code editing: I need height to see as many lines of code as possible, not width.

So here's a crazy idea... Is it at all possible to set the current editor to a newspaper-like, multi-column format? It would let you see twice as many code lines at once.

It will be possible when draggable floating tabs will be implemented in wxAUI (just like wxIFM haves currently).
