Having Code::Blocks glitches and crashes

MacBook Pro Laptop, OS 10.15.7, quad core i5, 2GHz, 16GB RAM, using CodeBlocks 17.12
1- Terminal window issue when doing simple math to test the terminal. Used to see the answer,
but now nothing beyond some pathway chain.
2- Gray box gets in the way of the cursor when typing, sometimes keeps me from typing.
3- Sometimes when #2 happens, CodeBlocks crashes.

I use default settings in CodeBlocks, nothing fancy.
Hard to do more than a line or two without that gray box getting in the way and crashing.
Used to happen on my prior older computer, slightly worse on this newer computer.

Help please.
