Problem compiling a file with a virtual target is selected

When I try to compile a file with a virtual target is selected in the "Build target" combo box, a dialog will pop up asking me to select a target. But it seems to me that targets shouldn't matter if I merely want to compile a file --- targets are only relevant when I want to build executables. Right?
