Disable method browser / speed up editor

Heya, is there some way to disable the method browser? The thing above the editor that lists all methods in the currently displayed file.. whenever I switch to a large file, the IDE freezes up until it completely refreshes that list. Saving takes a long time, too. It's not because the file is big, as the same file gets saved in under a quarter of a second in SciTE :/

How can I speed up the IDE in general?

Go to "Settings -> Editor -> Code-completion and symbols browser -> Symbols browser" and check "Disable symbols browser".
