Code::Blocks 8.04 on Ubuntu 10.04 C++

Info about me
I'm used to Microsoft visual studio 2005 Visual basic IDE and totally new to Linux, C++ and code::blocks

I've worked through some minor things like getting the watch to work and track my variables

My issue is with the debugger I was trying to step through my code line by line to find a logic error
Break points had no effect. I was looking for the same operation results Ms Studio had.

The problem is probably me, but could I get some help please?
