Adding sprites to CodeBlocks

Hi! I've recently started learning c++ and I'm making a game and I'm just wondering are there any tutorials on how to add sprites? I know how to make text game but I'd like some sprites there too. I've heard of adding DirectX or something for sprites but I have no idea on how to do that. So could somebody explain the whole thing of adding sprites or link me to a tutorial? I'm fairly new to c++ so I know it might sound stupid or something and that this might be in the wrong section.
