Codeblocks opens slowly off thumbdrive

The last two or three days codeblocks has been opening incredibly slowly off of my thumbdrive.
Normally it would take a few seconds but now it's taking 2-3 minutes.
I have default.conf in the same folder as C::B to make it portable.
This problem appeared suddenly on both my home and work computers but there haven't been any changes to settings on either computer nor the thumbdrive itself.
All the other programs on my thumbdrive continue to work fine and moving the fodler to a different area on the drive doesn't speed it up so I'm fairly certain the drive is not the issue.
If I copy the folder onto either computer it opens without any problems again.
I've reformatted the drive and reinstalled C::B but that hasn't helped any.
As far as I can tell when I try to run it off the thumbdrive it takes forever for it to allocate the memory for the GUI.

Any help with this is appreciated as I've sunk hours of time into this with 0 results.

You can try to copy C::B from the thumb drive to a harddisk, to see if the speed of the drive is OK.

The slowest part of C::B's loading is loading the plugins. It has to read the dlls and the zip files.
