Code::Blocks Shuts Down – Open Parenthesis

I have a mysterious problem.  Code:Blocks shuts down when I type an open parenthesis in an editor.  Each time I see the close parenthesis appear and then C::B shuts down immediately.  I have been using my new installation of C::B for just a couple of hours working my way through tutorials with no problem before this started. 

As an experiment I went back to the first two projects and found the open parenthesis shut down persisted.  Based on a suggestion I saw elsewhere in this forum I also renamed the libcodecompletion.so file to prevent that plugin from loading with no improvement.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Code::Blocks 12.11
Build: Dec 25 2012, 01:16:08 – wx2.8.12 (Linux, unicode) – 64 bit
