Editor window blank and grayed out

I've searched the forum and net in general for an answer to this but no luck.  I installed CodeBlocks and started a new C++ console application project, Give it a title and click next to create the project.  According to directions I found online it should open the editor window with a few lines already in it. 

I've tried it repeatedly (ok I'm crazy) and I can see my "HelloWorld" file name in the tree but the editor window is grayed out with nothing in it.  I can click on it and nothing, can't type any text in it.

I'm thinking at this point I should uninstall and reinstall the IDE. Can't find where anyone has had this problem before.
