how should your complier/or system be set up?

code was entered typed, just 8 lines but it will not Im trying to get my code to just build so I can run it. is there a way my system should be set up? downloaded the latest, compiler running on old win 7. I need help getting started. thx im trying to learn c/c++ but that holding me back
