Highlight selected text

On my machine I run Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 18.04. On both I have installed CodeBlocks. On the new 18.04 installation, there is no highlighting of selected variables. I like that feature a lot. I demonstrated it in the attached picture; I selected a variable in grey and all other appearances of it are highlighted with a red background. How can this highlighting be enabled in 18.04?
