Something about debugging

It is my first time to use codeblocks.It is really wonderful,but something I don't like happens when debugging.
I always want to watch variables,but there doesn't seem to be a shortcut to add a watch.Must I click many times to watch?I really don't like it.
I seldom make projects,I always just write short program which run in console.But I can't debug a single .cpp file without a project! :(It can only be run.I wonder whether I have made mistakes before debugging.
I think the two problems are easy to solve.But I don't know what to do.
