A problem with watching variables and debugging

I am using C::B 8.02 under WindowsXP SP3, and I meet a problem
When I add a variable to the watches column, if the variable has not been given initial value, the debug process cannot go on and the item in the menu ''DEBUG'' is gray except the "Stop debug". But if you click the stop at this time, it will only show a message "Trying to pause the running process..." and nothing happened.
Is this a bug or is because I did something wrong?
